We welcome you to the Archdiocese of New York Drug Abuse Prevention Program (ADAPP) website. Throughout our 35-year history, the Archdiocese has been committed to developing resilient, productive youth, ready to face each and every challenge the future will present.
While every generation has faced its dilemmas, the issues children encounter today are especially challenging. Potential substance abuse – be it drugs, alcohol, tobacco or even prescription and over-the-counter medications – bullying, school violence, online safety, stress and anxiety are just a few of the roadblocks that can interfere with their educational journey.
ADAPP is committed to helping our schools create
a safe, supportive environment where children
can learn and grow into healthy adults.
To that end, we intend to provide resources and
information to children, parents, teachers and
community members to tackle, head-on, the
issues we face.
We thank you in advance for joining ADAPP’s
efforts to assure the best possible future for
our children.

History
The Throggs Neck Community Action Partnership (TNCAP) is a coalition consisting of twenty community members that began in 1998 through a grant from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. This coalition is under the auspices of the Archdiocese of New York Drug Abuse Prevention Program (ADAPP). The coalition continues to thrive through current funding from the Federal Government Agency, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). TNCAP's services are limited to the urban community of Throggs Neck which is located in the southeast section of the Bronx, New York. The goal of the coalition is to prevent and reduce alcohol and drug use in children by strengthening collaboration in the community. TNCAP implements several environmental prevention strategies to meet its goal. Since its inception TNCAP takes pride in working collaboratively with its coalition members in developing a vision and initiating policy and environmental changes that increase opportunities for a healthier lifestyle for Throggs Neck residents. - In collaboration with the 45th Precinct and former Councilwoman Provinzano TNCAP instituted a city-wide policy by implementing the Parental Notification C-Summons Program. The purpose of notifying parents is to reduce the opportunity for youth to receive a second summons, and to increase their chances of appearing in court to eliminate possible bench warrants later on in life.
- In collaboration with our City Councilwoman and New York City Parks Department, TNCAP developed the first Non-Supervised Skate Park in New York City.
- In support of local businesses, the Merchant Association, SUNY Maritime, and the committed work of the coalition members, TNCAP offers free Alcohol Beverage Sales training to all local establishments, to assist them in complying with the laws of no sales to underage youth.
- In support of the local schools, churches, newspaper, youth, and civic and home owners' associations, TNCAP developed and distributed Newsletters, Resource Guides, and Anti-Graffiti Posters to local residents and businesses.
- In support of local legislators, TNCAP secured funding to help support programs and activities sponsored through the coalition.
